The Camp Lejeune Justice Act is a federal remedy to provide the residents of Camp Lejeune, military, civilians and their families with restitution for their loss and suffering.
The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 allows anyone who lived or worked at the base between 1953 and 1987, for at least 30 days and was exposed to its contaminated water to file a claim against the U.S. government. Victims can seek appropriate relief for harm incurred due to the water contamination.
The bill ensures access to justice through the courts.
The bill is now part of the The Honoring our PACT Act and its will ensure access to justice through the courts. Anyone who files a case must win on its merits.
The legislation covers individuals not already compensated; they must prove their case. The Camp Lejeune Justice Act is adjudicated in the courts and paid out through a Department in the Treasury called the Treasury Judgement Fund.
